The Salem East Indiaman Friendship was launched in 1797 and made 15 voyages to places including China, Batavia, Germany, and more for trade, and often brought back rare and exotic goods to the States. A replica was built by the National Park Service and is now housed at the Derby Wharf to preserve the history of the original ship.
